Well I know for me that whenever I think of Woolworths the two things that immediately spring to mind are Pic ‘N’ Mix and Hong Kong action movies.
That’s why it was so nice to finally see an advert for Woolworths that features Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan. I’ve often thought that Woolworths ought to exploit its obvious links to the Hong Kong martial arts scene.
Actually if you think I’m jesting in some way, why not watch it!
How fucked up is that? What were they thinking?

The top Woolworths memory for me is watching Russian Rob (AKA Robbie The Robot) being escorted away by the constabulary, following an incident.
Turns out he’d pissed in the Pic ‘N’ Mix.
For those of you wondering who the fuck Russian Rob is, I present you with a link to a very informative site.
For those of you too lazy to click, he was a Stafford eccentric who would routinely gad about Stafford shitting people up/acting mad.
Sadly I moved to Stafford too late to enjoy his ‘antics’. I did however on several occasions bump in to Crazy Dave (go on click that link, it’ll all make sense).
Once, memorably, in Our Price Crazy Dave was at the counter listening to music on the headphones they used to let people try before the bought and was heard to exclaim at full volume ‘I fucking love The Scorpions!’.
Turns out he used to go in practically every day just to listen to Wind Of Change.
Ah, the mentally ill, you’ve got to love them.
…ah yes - I was thinking very fondly of the Pic ‘N’ Mix until I read Tony’s comments - no more sugar mice for me!!!
Crazy Dave lived in the toilets by the old Tesco.
Crazy Dave was 6′8″ until a parachute accident shortened him.
Crazy Dave has a coat made of Semtex.
Crazy Dave. What a guy!
